how the series begins

i took this collage made in 1999 -
it measures approximately 29x24cm (12x10") ... combination of shibori'd papers, calligraphy and gesso on matboard.













i cleaned up the borders by painting a strip of vermillion gouache taking it right to the edge of the board.

then i overpainted with white gouache creating vessel shapes using my campbells pottery collection as inspiration for the shapes.














the board is then cut up into small business card sizes - approximately 7x5cm (3x2")

and each one is individually worked making it a piece capable of standing on its own .... a small part of the whole.
